2026 Florida Scalloping Season: What to Know Before You Go
2026 Crystal River & Homosassa Scalloping Season
Scalloping season in Citrus County officially begins on July 1, 2026, and we’re looking forward to another wonderful season! Scalloping in Crystal River and Homosassa has continued to improve over the past three years, and responsible harvesting practices can help keep it that way.
Protecting Florida’s Scallop Population
In some areas, regulations prohibit harvesting scallops below a certain size. Just like fishing and hunting, scalloping regulations vary depending on the location.
At Rod’s Florida Charter Service, we encourage responsible scalloping and follow eco-friendly harvesting guidelines to help protect scallop populations for future seasons.
Understanding the Scallop Life Cycle
Many people don’t realize that bay scallops have a relatively short lifespan, averaging just 12 to 13 months. Scallops begin reproducing early in their life cycle, making responsible harvesting especially important.
By allowing smaller scallops to mature and reproduce, we can help support healthier scallop populations for the following season.
Responsible Scalloping in Crystal River & Homosassa
Scallop measuring gauges are available at many local bait shops and sporting goods stores. We also provide them aboard our charters so guests can make informed harvesting decisions.
Although there is no minimum scallop size requirement in Citrus County, we encourage our guests to release smaller scallops whenever possible.
Protecting today’s scallops helps ensure great scalloping opportunities for years to come!
